Twin Twilights

Dawn in the forest:

Day  at length   broke in the sky.
When it had been day aloft  for some little while,
it became day in the wood.

Dusk in the swede-field:

… till the leaden light   diminishes,
and marks  that the sun is down …

-- Thomas Hardy, Tess of the d’Urbevilles (1892)
