The Great Ingathering
In the wake of the recent attacks in Paris and in Copenhagen (not to mention Brussels and elsewhere, with less publicity), Netanyahu is once again calling upon Jews to
leave Europe and remigrate to Israel.
Parallel to this, the Islamic State has for months been
issuing an equivalent appeal to Muslims -- leave the Dâr al-Harb and settle
permanently in lands under ISIL control. (As a second-best suggestion, for those who are unable to emigrate: Kill your European neighbors.)
Americans will recall something similar from their own
history, a/w the name of M. Garvey.
All this is by way of contraflow traffic to Le grand remplacement.

Netanyahu’s invitation -- which is not mere bluff; witness the Refusenik migration of the 1970s-- in the English-language

to crank out one of their standard “Fears of a blacklash against Muslims”

thick and fast, there is scarcely time to gasp “Ne faites donc pas d’amalgame!”
before another one must be reported.
And once again, we see an apparent manipulation by the
goodthink MSM.
If you look up Google-News for France, the photo
illustrating this story, which comes from the worthless middlebrow magazine L’Express,
shows a swastika and a slogan in German (“Juden raus” -- ‘Jews out’), making it
seem as though the desecration was the work of German(-speaking) Nazis, rather
than (say) France-based Salafists.
Yet photos in other sources simply show knocked-over gravestones. A reader comments:

that Italy too has hurriedly shuttered its embassy in Libya, and
repatriated citizens, who merely
by being in Libya were in mortal
peril.
But for all that, Italy has not yet got shut of that
country: for now, human traffickers in Libya are sending record numbers of boat
people (a medley of Abyssinian ne’er-do-wells, assorted and unassorted flotsam,
and inghimâsi infiltrators from ISIL) towards Italy, which, like a fool, is still running a free ferry-service to
gather them up from the grip of Poseiden, and speed them to the welcoming arms
of the taxpayers. Yesterday over 2,000 were plucked from the jaws of
death, in a single day! And
to cap it all off, this time the rescuers, so far from receiving the slightest
thanks, were held up at kalashnikov-point and robbed.

to Europe — as did two smugglers who said they have helped. He smuggles them

stage attacks in the West.

If you want to reduce immigration, then a vote for Ukip is
indeed the only option.
The same cannot be said for the policy stances of either the
Conservative party or the Labour party. Their positions are bankrupt, both
morally and intellectually. They have pledged not to out-Ukip Ukip, and then
tried to do just that. They have talked tough on immigration whilst pursuing
policies they know full well will lead to an increase in immigration. And
through their failure to make the case for immigration – a case they know is,
in fact, unanswerable – they stand guilty of one of the worst abdications of
political responsibility for a generation. Appeasement, masquerading as
political populism, itself masquerading as political empathy.

One gets the impression, after a slackening following the end of the traditional Cold War, and the period of high hopes for newly-independent nations, born both of the breakup of the Soviet bloc, and the retreat of European colonialism from the continents they once stabilized tant bien que mal, that lines are being drawn, for some wide-ranging upcoming conflicts. But their pattern is not yet clear. The antagonisms and (very unstable) alliances will likely be determined as much by climate change, and water shortages, and the general worldwide “scissors effect” (Trotsky, before his time) as any traditionally recognizable allegiances.
Europe is nervous.
It looks south, and sees its future in Lampedusa.

before a wave of Western romanticization of the Third World arrived. Gellner in 1964, like Enoch Powell in
1968, was looking farther down the

The 1996 book It Takes a Village, by Barbara Feinman
(writing as “Hillary Clinton”), was meant -- commendably -- to point to the
need (which in practice, in America, had never been denied, until recently) for
community involvement in child-rearing, beyond the autarky of the nuclear
family. Such was the unquestioned
state of affairs during my own childhood:
church, school, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Little League, summer camps, YMCA,
… The need has become more acute
in this time of fragmented families, or households that were never a full and
normal family at all. The
book dissents, though in liberal guise, from the new-hatched doctrine that all
you need for healthy happy productive children is a baby-mama and her welfare check.
The title purports to translate an African proverb (which
has enough truth not to quibble with;
see Wiki for originals);
and indeed, in the setting of traditional Africa (which largely no
longer exists), it is true enough.
But in our own time, such does not suffice. In the words of an especially perceptive socio-historian,
writing over half a century ago:
A Greek village can produce a
little Greek, a Nuer village can make new Nuers … It is however awkward to say
that (for instance) a French village can produce a Frenchman. Can it? It can certainly produce a French peasant, who is a kind of Frenchman. But a Frenchman without qualification? [Meaning not: “a Frenchman without qualifications”, for that is exactly
what a village can produce, but: a
Frenchman tout court.]
Village-size social units are no longer competent to produce
fully life-sized human beings. A
Nuer village can still produce a Nuer, but it is incapable of producing an
effective Sudanese citizen.

The insight is striking, now that Sudan itself has fragmented into two,
and the fragments themselves are dysfunctional. A friend who has followed the Sudanese situation for
years, reports that the race war between Nuer and Dinka is currently absolutely savage, though
this finds little reflection in the press, which (understandably) has its own
space-limitations for Third World meshugaas.
This (widely anticipated, though unspoken) result,
illustrates once more the
instability of micronationalisms;

Now, that particular pickle leaves one ambivalent.

There was also an update today on the little-followed
Nuer/Dinka bloodbath:
According to the United Nations
mission in South Sudan, rebel forces entered the town of Bentiu in Unity State
and separated groups of residents — who had sought refuge in churches, mosques
and hospitals — by their ethnicity and nationality.
Members of the ethnic Nuer community
who did not support the rebels, along with South Sudanese people from other
ethnic groups and Darfuris from Sudan to the north, were targeted and killed.
At the Kali-Ballee Mosque, “more
than 200 civilians were reportedly killed and over 400 wounded,” the statement
said. Some rebels used FM radio to broadcast ethnic-based “hate speech” and
encouraged “men from one community to commit vengeful sexual violence against
women from another community,”

Migration (IOM) spoke to four survivors who were rescued from the water. Four survivors told the IOM that the
traffickers were Egyptian and Palestinian.
They said that had been forced to
change boats three times since leaving Egypt in early September. However, when
told to switch to a smaller vessel which many passengers deemed unsafe, a
violent argument ensued.
The traffickers then rammed the
larger vessel, causing it to begin sinking immediately, the survivors told IOM.
"After they hit our boat they
waited to make sure that it had sunk completely before leaving. They were
laughing," one of the survivors said.

has just condemned former premier Silvio Berlusconi to seven days in jail for
having consorted with a prostitute who lied (quite plausibly, judging by her
photos) about her age: none other
than this delicate maiden, this paragon of virginal virtue:

I hold no brief whatsoever for Berlusconi, no more than for
Al Capone: a crook, a clown, a
blot upon all Italia. But the
verdict of this troika of harpies
leaves a sour taste …
As usual, the reportage and commentary in Le Figaro does not disappoint. We offer a generous selection (as much
for the benefit of students of French, as anything -- several fine idioms

mineure ». Les juges italiens … en l’occurrence les « femmes juges italiennes »
qui ont condamné le Cavaliere ont tout à fait la tête de l’emploi… des moches
et frustrées de la vie. Pas du tout dans le genre de cette magnifique Ruby que
personne, en tant qu’homme, ne saurait dédaigner ! Ils ont perdu la cervelle

Gravity échoue au test féministe suédois
Harry Potter, Le Seigneur des
Anneaux et d'autres blockbusters ont failli au test de Bechdel, mis en place
par quatre cinémas scandinaves et censé déterminer le degré de sexisme des
longs-métrages.
Chez les champions de la parité
homme-femme, les films sont soumis à une nouvelle cote. Désormais, en Suède,
les fictions sont bien sûr classées selon leur niveau de violence ou
d'érotisme, mais aussi en fonction de leur degré de machisme! C'est parce
qu'elle jugeait la place des femmes trop marginale au cinéma que Alison
Bechdel, auteur américaine de BD, a imaginé ce test dans une de ses œuvres, Les Lesbiennes à suivre (1985).
Selon une planche de la bande dessinée, un film noté «A» réunit trois critères:
au moins deux personnages féminins sont présents dans l'intrigue, elles doivent
se parler entre elles, et aborder d'autres sujets que les hommes. Quatre cinéma
suédois ont décidé d'appliquer ce test.
Sur l'année 2012- 2013, seuls
Hunger Games, Blue Jasmine, Man of Steel ont réussi le test de Bechdel. Qui
sont les mauvais élèves? Majoritairement des blockbusters. «La trilogie du
Seigneur des anneaux, tous les Harry Potter sauf un, Star Wars, The Social
Network, Pulp Fiction», énumère Ellen Tejle, directrice du cinéma Bio Rio à
Stockholm. Plus surprenant, Gravity a lui aussi échoué. Le film de
science-fiction d'Alfonso Cuarón fait pourtant la part belle au courage
féminin. Sandra Bullock porte le film à elle seule et fait preuve d'un instinct
de survie que peu d'hommes pourraient revendiquer. Mais l'actrice est la seule
femme à l'écran et peut donc difficilement parler à un personnage du même sexe.
Hollywood semble séduit par le test
de Bechdel. «Une notation féministe? C'est tellement intéressant, s'est exclamé
l'actrice et productrice Jada Pinkett Smith, lors d'un dîner caritatif pour
l'égalité homme-femme. «Voyons si cela fonctionne!» Mais le système compte
aussi ses premiers détracteurs. «S'ils veulent plus de femmes dans les films,
ils ont qu'à les produire eux-mêmes plutôt que pointer du doigt les
réalisateurs», proteste la physicienne Tanja Bergkvist sur son blog consacré à
la «folie du féminisme».
