The Urysohn Metrization Theorem: a poetic account

The Urysohn Metrization Theorem:
a poetic account

( This poem
treats of the theorem
for a General Audience. )

“Stay!  Who can tame
this wild rough wood,
and bring it into measure?”
they asked the land-surveyor.

“Aye, that can I,”
the stout lad said.
“So the terrain be not too pocked or dimpled,
nor stretch beyond all horizon
unto uncountability.”

So saying, he hoisted his transit over his shoulder
and went off whistling,
